the other day one of my faithful readers, lib, mentioned to me that i should be putting more women of average size on my blog. i like that idea, and funny she should say that, because i happened to have stumbled upon this really fun shoot, with jacquelyn jablonski (left) and crystal renn (right), shot by terry richardson. the description reads that "if it's bright enough, tight enough, or eye-poppingly printed enough, odds are it'll work on any figure," and i really love and appreciate that while they are still in a clear minority, it's getting easier to see that women of more realistic body types are infiltrating the overall insanity that is the industry of fashion.

a few days ago, i finished school forever!! i'm so excited! to celebrate, i bought myself this taro gomi coloring book that i've been hearing about all over the place, and of course some new crayons. it's so neat because it gives you little tasks on every page - "watch out! water's coming out of the hose!" or "draw a few more astronauts." seriously so fun, i've been loving it - go get one immediately!!

also, just have to say, i experienced one of the weirdest canadian/american differences while shopping for coloring books with my friend (who happened to pick up an amazing disney princesses one). she wanted colored pencils, but she, as well as all other canadians, call them pencil crayons. what?! pencils and crayons are two different things, colored pencils are actually what they are! crazy canadians, i'll miss them!

so yesterday i saw 'youth in revolt,' and i have to admit, i was unimpressed, as i predicted i would be. i read the book a long time ago, which was bizarre enough, and i was a little afraid that the movie would be a hipster tribute starring their king, michael cera. admittedly, i love him (mostly due to arrested development), and he very successfully played a different role - francois - other than awkward teen which he plays in most everything he stars in. he should do that more often. the movie fell short, i thought, and the script really didn't match the acting at all.

with that being said, it's hard to deny that he and portia doubleday didn't look very nice making the rounds promoting the movie. good stuff.

for my elective non-religions course, theater in the age of film and television, we watched moulin rouge for our first movie. i've always loved this movie, know the songs (elephant love medley, anyone?), and discussing it in a somewhat sophisticated capacity only affirmed this. it seamlessly transfers between film and theater styles, and is just fully unapologetic in its ridiculousness. nowhere does it stop to acknowledge its insanity - you're taken along for baz luhrmann's entire ride as though it is complete bizarre reality. adore adore.
